Introduction

Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School is a co-educational private Catholic college-preparatory high school located in Everett, Washington. Founded as Holy Cross High School in 1988, Archbishop Murphy High School serves students grades nine through twelve and enrollment has increased from 23 students in 1988 to approximately 450 for Fall 2012. Here at Archbishop Murphy High School we take seriously our school's mission:


Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School is a Catholic, college preparatory school that welcomes students of all faiths. True to the spirit of the Gospel, Archbishop Murphy nurtures the full development of the gifts that God has given to each student, fosters service as an outgrowth of faith, and values diversity. Working with parents as partners in this educational ministry, we strive for academic excellence, spiritual enrichment, and Christlike leadership for the transformation of the world.

Academic Excellence - Class of 2012 Highlights

  • The average cumulative grade point for all four years was 3.57.

  • 79% of the class took Advanced Placement and/or other courses that generated college credit while at AMHS.

  • Members of this class were offered merit scholarships and awards totaling over $9.3 million.

  • 86% of the class graduated with Academic Honors (cumulative GPA higher than 3.2).

  • Five graduates were recognized as National Merit Commended students, two as National Merit Finalists, and one was a National Merit Scholarship Recipient.

  • The class achieved an average SAT score of 1707(includes all three tests).

  • 97% of the Class of 2012 will be pursuing post-secondary education. 94% are going on to four-year colleges and universities. 16% will be attending a Catholic university.

  • 52% of the class were members of the National Honor Society.

Other areas of achievement:

  • Over 18,000 hours of service were provided to over 100 organizations in our community.

  • Mock Trial Team - District Champs 

  • Hi-Q Team placed 4th in the Nation

  • AMHS placed first in the WIAA 2A Scholastic Cup competition.

  • Three teams were awarded 2011-2012 WIAA 2A State Academic Championships (baseball, boys' track, boys' swimming).

Academic Information

The course of study at Archbishop Murphy High School (AMHS) is designed to prepare students to enter a college or university. Within this college preparatory framework, we seek to direct students to courses that will consistently challenge their capacity and potential. Every student at AMHS is given ample opportunity to meet and explore challenges of the learning process.

Credits and Grading

A total of 24 credits are required to graduate from Archbishop Murphy High School. Students take six classes each semester. Class periods are 50-55 minutes in length. Academic credits are assigned each semester for each course in which a passing grade is earned. A passing grade in a yearlong course earns one credit, while passing a semester long course generates one-half credit.
