Lower Field Renovation • July 2011

(Stay tuned while slideshow loads at left.)

Summer 2011. If you have been on the Archbishop Murphy campus this summer, you have seen a flurry of activity around installing a new football/soccer field. The Board of Trustees was spurred on to expend the funds to redo the field drainage and other preparation work by a gift that has come to Archbishop Murphy High School in a rather unusual way.

Through contacts with Qwest Field and the Sounders soccer team, Archbishop Murphy High School has been given the gift of 100,000 square yards of prime sod. This comes about because of the Sounders soccer match versus Manchester United on July 20, 2011. Manchester specified that they would only play on real grass. Therefore, the Sounders put down grass over the artificial surface of Qwest Field for that one game. After the game, the sod was rolled up and brought to Archbishop Murphy High School to cover our football/soccer field.

We are indebted to many people for this extraordinary gift that will make our field the premier natural grass field in the area.
