Doesn’t tuition cover the annual budget needs?

As part of our commitment to Catholic education and our desire to make Catholic education accessible, we charge tuition less than the true cost, and provide financial aid to those in need.  Therefore, tuition and fees cover approximately 78% of the annual budget. This creates a need to “cover the gap” between tuition payments and the actual cost of an Archbishop Murphy High School education.

How is this “gap” funded?

The annual budget expenses are met due to the generosity of many from these sources: the Annual Fund, Donations above Tuition, the Dream Auction, Annual Giving efforts, and the Phonathon.   In addition this year we are offering people an opportunity to make a Holy Cross Commitment or Archbishop Murphy Partnership pledge as part of their annual giving.

What are Archbishop Murphy Partnerships, Holy Cross Commitments and Donations Above Tuition?

Those families who agree to pay the true cost of education – tuition charged plus the “gap” amount – are Archbishop Murphy Partners. The Holy Cross Commitment is a program where families generously pledge to cover the gap for their student and another student on financial aid. These payments are fully tax deductible and may be paid monthly, quarterly and in one payment by cash, check or credit card. Donations Above Tuition can be for any amount over tuition yet under the true cost.

How do parent volunteer hours fit into the development program?

One way that we as a school partner with our parents is the enlistment of parent volunteers for a variety of events and roles at Archbishop Murphy High School. Parent volunteerism helps keep costs down and enhances the engagement of families in our community. Every family is required to contribute twenty hours a year, but many contribute much more. We could not be more blessed and grateful for the support of our families and the time they contribute. Families that fail to meet their parent hour obligation will not be allowed to register for the following year or receive transcripts.
