Archbishop Murphy’s DECA team continues to grow stronger, and this year is proof.

In April, the AMHS DECA chapter sent eight students to the International Career Development Conference competition in Atlanta this year. An additional three students attended the THRIVE Leadership Academy. During their six-day trip, these 11 students competed in varying events both as individuals and teams, and also had the chance to explore Atlanta. The group spent a day at Six Flags and visited the Atlanta Aquarium.

Of the eight students participating in ICDC competition, three were finalists in their events, indicating that they were within the top 22 in the world.

Seniors Hannah Lukomski and Anjelica de Leon placed 5th at state in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making, qualifying them for internationals.  The dynamic duo also served as Archbishop Murphy’s chapter President and Vice-President, shining examples of leadership for all of the chapter’s members.

Junior Anthony Damitio was a finalist in his event at ICDC. Winning the Sports Entertainment and Marketing Series at the Area 2 competition for the third year in a row, he then went on to compete at state where he qualified for Atlanta. Next year, he will serve as chapter President.

Other ICDC competitors included Barrett Floyd, Josh Rauvola, Claire Doud, Drew Carlton, and Devin Moore. Kainoa Evans, Kate Tran, and Daniel Kozuck attended the leadership academy.

This year AMHS had the largest chapter in Area 2, with 118 members including alumni and business professionals. Thirty-one students moved on from Area to State. The DECA operated student store was also recertified gold, the highest distinction DECA recognizes for a student store.

The program has seen great success since its inception in 2014.
