Start Learning Business Skills in High School With the AMHS Business Pathway Program

  • AMHS

Archbishop Murphy High School offers a unique program for students interested in business.

Are you interested in starting a career in business one day? Archbishop Murphy High School has the program you need.

Our Business Pathway Program gives students the chance to explore business career options, take specialized courses, and get business-related experience while in high school.

WHAT IS THE AMHS BUSINESS PATHWAY PROGRAM?

The AMHS Business Pathway program is a 2-4 year elective program for students at Archbishop Murphy High School. Students in this program take specialized business courses, get experiential learning opportunities outside of class, and volunteer in business-related settings.

This program is designed for students who are interested in exploring business careers and/or preparing to study a business-related field in college. It helps students explore their interests in marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, business administration, hospitality, and other areas of business while also developing workplace skill sets.

Ideally, students should begin the pathway in 9th or 10th grade to get the full experience. However, students can still join the program at the beginning of 11th grade if they’re enrolled in Introduction to Business.

OUR HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS COURSES

Students in the AMHS business pathway must complete 2-3 courses:

  • Introduction to Business
  • Marketing & Management
  • Either an internship (on-campus or off-campus) or Future Ready, our “life after high school” preparation course.

All three of these courses, including the internship if a student chooses that option, can count as tech credit toward graduation.

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS

Students must participate in DECA every year they are in the Business Pathway program. DECA is an after-school program that prepares students to be the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. DECA participation means attending meetings, participating in the Area 2 Conference in Lynnwood, and paying the DECA dues ($40 per year).

Students must also complete 24 hours of additional community service beyond the AMHS grade-level volunteer hour requirements. These 24 hours of service should be in a business-related capacity.

Business Pathway Program applications are due near the end of September every year. Please check the calendar for the current or upcoming year’s deadline.

Finally, you must sign an agreement stating that you understand the program requirements.
