AMHS Mock Trial Qualifies for State Competition

In the most competitive district mock trial meet in recent memory, the Archbishop Murphy High School mock trial team advanced its JV team to the State Meet after a 3rd place finish in the Snohomish County Mock Trial District Competition held last weekend. This is the 13th consecutive season AMHS has advanced a mock trial team to state. The Varsity finished in 5th place, behind perennial powers King's Varsity, Meridian, and King's JV. Other competing teams included Bothell, Jackson, and Windward (Ferndale).
This year’s fictional case, entitled "Won't Back Down", involves a 1st Degree Assault charge against security guard Greyson Dula. Mr./Miss Dula was involved in a fictitious struggle against a man who was blaring loud music in an apartment parking lot before shooting him, allegedly in self-defense. Various scientific issues like acoustics enhancements, sound level readings, and a rare condition known as "misophonia" (the hatred of certain types of sounds) help make this case particularly educational and interesting.
Archbishop Murphy particularly benefited from the outstanding leadership, dedication, and skill of the only three seniors on the team of 31 students: Charlie Castillo, Alexi Obillo, and Hannah Snider.
During the 4 rounds of competition, the following Archbishop Murphy students also received special recognition:
Outstanding Attorneys:
Elissa Elmorr, Emily Kim, Jaida Ivy, Matthew Kenny, Alex Miller, Maria Morales, Alexi Obillo, Ryan Ohl
Outstanding Witnesses:
Ellie Bailey, Kainoa Evans, Alex Gross, Talon Langdon, Grace Lefcourt, Maddie Mayans, Milen Niftalem, Jenna Suh, Christine Yen
Other Archbishop Murphy team members include attorneys Connor Benum, Charlie Castillo, Varsha Moolayil, and Thea Zabala; and witnesses Ian Alvarez, Jaelyn Ashley, Donovan Harmon, Luke Kendrick, Paola Medina, Sean Murray, Tauheed Sadruddin and Hannah Snider;  and bailiffs Mary Grossenbacher and Suzy Huang
Archbishop Murphy is coached by Roger Brodniak, Caleb Ellis, Susan Bolles, Jennifer Flynn, Christine Frausto, Jessica Ness, Kari Petrasek, and Judge Ken Williams.
