📣 Alumni Spotlight: Father Justin Ryan 🎓

Sometimes the path we’re meant to follow begins long before we can see where it will lead.

For Father Justin Ryan ‘06, Archbishop Murphy offered everyday moments of faith, friendship, and community that helped shape his path to the priesthood.

“So much of our Catholic faith is subtle, you know, in those moments of just the day-in, day-out, not just theology class, but the time with teachers, with classmates.”

As a senior, Justin took Christian Vocations and began seriously discerning the possibility of priesthood. Conversations with teachers and mentors, including Mary Ann Callahan, John Clapp, and Father Armando, became meaningful parts of that journey.

Winning the 2003 state soccer title, something he’d literally prayed for, left him asking a deeper question: what will truly satisfy? That became part of recognizing the joy of following the Lord.

His connection to AMHS runs deeper still: his mother, Roberta Ryan, has long worked in the Business Office as Assistant to the CFO. The two share a close bond, and her love and guidance helped him through those years, a reminder of the lasting influence of faith and family.

Looking back, Justin would share a couple of pieces of advice with his high school self:

“It’s okay to say no to a couple things. I tried to do everything, especially during senior year, because the fear of missing out was definitely there.”

And the other:

“Trust that God’s not going to waste anything. Even if you can’t see the long-term value of something, God’s going to draw something from it as long as we’re disposed to follow the Lord. Trust that the Lord is accompanying you, and just take that next step.”

Father Justin’s journey is a beautiful reminder that the people, experiences, and moments along the way are never wasted.
