Volunteer Information

Volunteers are part of everything we do at Archbishop Murphy, from fundraising events to the sidelines, the stage and the chapel. There are two ways to volunteer at AMHS:

  • Fundraising activities, which count toward your family’s 20 required service hours.
  • Volunteering directly with students in Athletics, Fine Arts, Campus Ministry, Clubs and other programs. These roles have additional safety requirements that must be completed before you begin.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT WITH FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

AMHS was started by a group of parents in 1988, and ever since then, parent involvement has been key to who we are as a school. Per the AMHS contract and the handbook, all families are required to contribute 20 volunteer hours per school year. Please be aware that participation in the fall raffle ticket program does not contribute to your family obligation or parent service hours.

1. Serving 20 volunteer hours or contributing goods of equal value (20 hours = $400). Volunteer hours and approved donations can be found in Sign-up Genius. Any donations and/ or volunteer hours outside of those in Sign-up Genius need prior approval from the Advancement Office. Requests for volunteer hours and goods can be found in the weekly AMHS Announce.

Since we are going paperless, all service hours and contributions of goods will be recorded electronically on Sign-Up Genius. Here is how it works:

  • Go to Sign-Up Genius for volunteer opportunities: www.signupgenius.com. You can also go to our website under parent resources and click on the AMHS Sign-up Genius link. You may need to create a login and password. Don’t forget to save it as a favorite.
  • Review the volunteer opportunities across the many areas of the school by clicking HERE
  • When signing up be sure to include your phone number and email address.
  • Sign-up Genius will automatically send you a reminder two days prior to your scheduled time.
  • Only hours submitted in the sign-up genius will be recorded as volunteer hours.
  • Please use the AMHS Sign-up Genius system initiated by the school to record volunteer hours. Outside and/or separate parent sign-up opportunities are not valid.

2. Buy Out – Families can opt to buy out all or part of this obligation at $20 per hour (20 hours x $20 = $400).

VOLUNTEERING WITH STUDENTS: ATHLETICS, FINE ARTS, CAMPUS MINISTRY & MORE

To comply with federal and state requirements, AMHS conducts background checks for all employees, coaches, and volunteers.

To ensure a safe environment for all students, Archbishop Murphy High School requires all volunteers who work with students to complete the same screening and onboarding process.

Before You Begin Volunteering

The following requirements must be completed before any volunteer may work with students:

  1. Background Check
  2. VIRTUS Training (Archdiocese of Seattle Safe Environment Training)
  3. Review and Sign the Volunteer Handbook
  4. Complete the Volunteer Liability Waiver and Release Form (included in the Volunteer Handbook)

Volunteers may not begin service until all four requirements have been successfully completed and approved.

How to Become a Volunteer

  1. Contact the coach, advisor, department lead, or staff member overseeing the program or activity where you would like to volunteer.
  2. The staff member will submit your name to Human Resources as an approved volunteer candidate.
  3. Human Resources will contact you directly with instructions, required paperwork, and training information.
  4. Once you complete all requirements and HR approves them, HR will notify you that you are cleared to begin volunteering.

Please do not contact Human Resources directly to request volunteer paperwork or begin the process. Your coach, advisor, or staff contact must submit your name first.

Volunteer Check-In Procedures

All volunteers must:

  • Check in at the Front Office when you arrive.
  • Wear a Visitor’s Pass at all times while on campus.
  • Follow all school safety and visitor policies.

Thank you for your willingness to support our students and school community. Your time, talents, and commitment make a meaningful difference at AMHS.

Additional Information

  • Fundraising volunteers whose roles involve working with students, such as working concessions at games, must also complete the screening requirements above.
  • Volunteer drivers must also complete a driving record check, AMHS vehicle training, and the AMHS Driver Handbook.
  • Volunteering with students counts toward your family’s 20 service hours, but only when the hours are recorded through the School’s Sign-Up Genius.
