Catholic education has a long tradition of promoting academic excellence and spiritual growth. Learn more about Catholic education at AMHS.

Christian schools all celebrate and share the spirit of the Gospels and the notion of unconditional love so inherent in the teachings of Jesus to his disciples. However, Catholic schools in particular have a long history of academic excellence, service towards others, and mission-based experience, all tied together by intentional Catholic practices and traditions for students and families.

Catholic high schools are often referred to as college preparatory schools. We have the intention of preparing students for matriculation to colleges and universities and a life devoted to service to others.

Here’s what this tradition of academic excellence, service, and spirituality looks like at our Catholic high school:

CATHOLIC EDUCATION AT AMHS

Like Catholic schools across the country, AMHS welcomes students and families of all faiths and backgrounds with the intent of developing students in mind, body and spirit. Students are challenged to reach their full potential in and out of the classroom.

ACADEMICS

We offer a wide variety of college preparatory courses that provide students with opportunities to earn college credit while in high school, an academic support program to serve diverse learners, and a plethora of core and elective courses that allow students to pursue STEM, humanities, physical education, art, and world languages.

AMHS also teaches Theology to all students in each academic year with courses that explore the Old and New Testaments, the history of the Catholic Church, and Catholic Social Teaching. AMHS opens and closes each day in a school house prayer with the charism of the namesake of the school, former Archbishop of Seattle Thomas J. Murphy: In Christ, there is joy and hope.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

AMHS is committed to the spiritual growth of our students through grade level retreat programs that encourage students to explore their relationships with themselves, their family and friends, and with God. The culmination of the retreat program is the KAIROS retreat for junior and senior students, led by AMHS faculty, staff, and students.

The AMHS website is home to over 1100 articles, prayers, and homilies from Archbishop Murphy as well as a history and timeline of his life as a bishop of the Catholic Church. As a member school of the Archdiocese of Seattle, AMHS enjoys visits from priests from our local parish schools who celebrate the holy days of obligation and seasonal prayer services with our community.

At Archbishop Murphy High School, our mission is to prepare students to become Christlike leaders, in partnership with parents in the formative years of adolescence. While not all students and families at AMHS are Catholic, all students are welcome and celebrated for their diversity and are embraced in our daily prayer, monthly liturgies and prayer services, and in our school retreat program.
