Our Catholic Faith and Mission at Archbishop Murphy High School

  • AMHS

Our mission comes to life when our students graduate and become the next generation of leaders we so desperately need in our world.

“Catholic education must provide the best possible education in the secular subjects, but Catholic education will survive and flourish when it offers “something more” whereby it becomes a beacon of hope to an entire community. Catholic schools must also find ways to reflect the diversity of who we are as a community of destiny. Catholic schools must seek to welcome students from all backgrounds and become a rainbow of color, ethnicity, and religious traditions.”

–Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy

For those of us who have attended Catholic schools we share common experiences and memories regardless of time and place. At AMHS, our students are rooted in the Catholic faith as they open and close the day in prayer, take Theology courses, attend school liturgies and prayer services, plan and attend school retreats, and perform community service and volunteer on behalf of others.

In addition to our Catholic identity, AMHS models Catholic schools nationwide with our academic excellence and robust co-curricular programs that allow our students to grow and develop in mind, body, and spirit. While AMHS is similar to other Catholic schools, what makes us unique and sets us apart are the faculty and staff who are called to serve our community of students and families.

The word vocation stems from the Latin word, vocare, which means to call. To teach and work in education, especially at a Catholic school, is to answer the call to serve others in the vocation of ministry. Since my arrival at AMHS in 2006, I have been blessed to serve alongside colleagues who arrived at our school at various times in their lives: as a student, a parent, a teacher, a staff member, or as a board member. I believe it speaks volumes that we have over a dozen alumni who work at the school on our faculty and staff or coach and moderate our co-curricular activities.

Each person who works at AMHS does not just serve in one role. We are here to minister to our students and families in a variety of ways. That is our commitment as stated in our mission statement: to partner with our parents in our educational ministry to prepare our students to become Christlike leaders who will transform the world.

Our mission comes to life when our students graduate and become the next generation of leaders we so desperately need in our world. Our graduates have answered the call to serve in education, the priesthood, healthcare, public service, technology and engineering, business, law enforcement, and the legal profession, among countless fields and professions all the while giving back to their communities and loved ones.
